Re-recording Our OTS

After filming/editing our OTS, we've decided as a group to film again as we believe we could have done better. Learning from our mistakes, we will use a Tri-pod for when its needed e.g. Panning etc. We will be recording tomorrow morning as we have monday mornings off! We have also managed to take more props such as a BB Gun etc.

Today's Progress

Today, me Luke and Lewis gathered together to film our Opening Title Sequence. We took the schools camera and our storyboard. The weather was quite good for what we wanted to achieve, however if it was slightly darker it would have been more dramatic as there would have been shadows etc. learning from this mistake, we will think about the timeing in future so that the lighting is right for the style we wish to achieve. We also tried to edit our final recordings.

We found difficulty editing because we were a bit unexperienced with iMovie as we hadn't used it in a while. We will overcome this by asking how to do the uploading properly, or using iMovie 09 on my laptop. When we have done that, we will then decided what the voiceover is going to say, what our OTS will be called, and whether we should make our OTS black & white or not. These will all be descussed in our next gathering.

Camera Angles We May Use For Final Project

For our final project/recording, i have thought about what camera angles we may use.

We wish to make our project mysterious and we will follow this idea by using camera angles such as pans and tracking etc. This is so the audience will see the character but not see their faces. i've looked at camera angles such as:

  • Close-ups - This is when the camera is focusing on the characters face, showing the emotions on the characters face.
  • Extreme Close-ups - This is where the camera zooms in on the face to show even more emotions and get an idea of what the character was thinking.
  • Shot Reverse Shot - Means repetative shots. For example, we were thinking of using this is our last scene. Let's say I use an over the shoulder shot over character 1, character 2 will be shown. Then it would go on so then there is an over the shoulder shot of character 2 looking at character 1.
  • Over the Shoulder Shot - This is where the shot shows half of the character and their shoulder. It gives the empression that we are standing behind the character that is in the scene.
  • Framing - This is when the subject is in the middle and surrounded by something else. This makes the character stand out more so the focus is more on the character. Because our filming will be in mousehold woods, we will be surrounded by trees etc. will is ideal for our characters to stand out.
  • Reverse Tracking - This is when the camera zooms out from the character who is moving away from the camera. I do not think we will use this technique as it is not very relevent for the style/mood we wish to create!
  • Tracking - Tracking is where the camera is following the character/subject which gives the empression that we are following the subject. We will use this because it makes the scene tense and adds mystery.
  • Pan - Standing for Panoramic View. This is when the camera moves from side to side, showing the whole landscape. It is also used for when the camera is following the charcter. We will use panning as our main character runs a lot in our OTS so we will use Panning to capture him.
  • High Angle Shots - This is when the camera is higher than the subject, making the subject look small and powerless. Also making the audience feel bigger.
  • Low Angle Shots - This is when the camera is lower than the subject, making the sebject look big and powerful.
  • Canted Angle Shot - This is where the camera angle is tilted/not straight. This is used either to make the scene disorientated or just to fit in a longer view.

Group Meeting (Deciding our Roles)

Today our group had a meeting. We then discussed what our progress in media was like and how we could organize our blog, orginize what we are doing e.g. filming, editing and when we are going to meet etc.
I have already created a storyboard to outline what our OTS will include, such as characters, mise-en-scene, lighting, location etc.
All three of us will start to film on Monday morning. This will be in Mousehold as it is a perfect place for lighting, and our decided location. We haven't yet decided who are two characters will be, however we will pick two people before monday. These will be male characters.
Luke will be sorting out the editing and sound.
Lewis will be sorting out the Photos and filming.

Script and Storyboard for OTS

I took the role of writing/making a storyboard for are Opening Title Sequence. As the OTS has to be based around film noir, we decided to use similar camera angles such as extreme close ups etc. The OTS is set in Mousehold woods as we wanted a man to be running away from another man, seen at the end of our OTS. i've decided to use many dramatic shots including silhouettes, long shadows etc. Because Mousehold has many open spaces, we will record most of it. For example, i have included a scene where the character is running from one side of the shot, to the other side. I thought that if the characters have their hoods up, it may make the OTS more believable as our characters will be teenagers. This would also seem more modern etc. When we start to edit the clip, we will most likely make the whole thing black and white to mimic film noir's genre. I believe that if we include very little sound effects, the clip will become more tense and mysterious.
